How does design define who I am?

montage, art-direction, film, illustration

2018, Vienna

I constantly find myself questioning my perception of design and my motivation to pursue this field. My mind gets bombarded with numerous unlinked explanations. I thought after three years of pursuing this field I would have a clearer definition of what it means to me, but on the contrary, it becomes more complex and overwhelming to me day by day. While this sounds like a drawback it could also be one of the biggest perks of studying something extensive, limitless, and free. I have learnt to embrace this constant inquisitive, and use it to my advantage to explore new concepts, ideas, and disciplines.

Lately I have become aware that I have unconsciously been striving to connect my design practise with my everyday life. The Fluxus movement which emerged in 1960s is driven by “the notion that art is something that can play an active role in their own approaches to life's essential questions”. I utilise design as a means to explore myself, share my experiences and feelings as well as raise awareness to concepts that affect me.

This short film encapsulates a summary of the inspirations and ideas behind my works.
